If you’re often writing or producing music alone, it can be really easy to lose perspective. Having a sounding board who is more experienced than you in a specific area can help you develop confidence in your artistic choices and build momentum for your musical journey. This is an essential part of your relationship with Soundfly and with your mentor — having someone in your corner who can help you develop the confidence to push yourself further than you thought you could go.

We cover a lot of musical topics between the editorial content here on Flypaper, our newsletter Soundfly Weekly, our mentored online courses, and our customized project-oriented mentorship sessions on Soundfly. Yet no matter what area of composition, production, performance, or business we’re talking about from one day to the next, we find that what links most modern musicians in their drive to learn more and expand their skills and opportunities today is the need to develop a better grasp on home recording.

The Wu-Tang Clan will auction this handcrafted album off after an international museum listening tour, and bids are already coming in exceeding $5 million. “We are dealing with music here, not 1s and 0s, so we made the early decision to not trust the data. We engineered the user experience and worked our way back to the data. When we were faced with a problem, we looked at music theory and Djing to solve the user experience rather than rely on what the data was telling us.”

At the beginning of your four-week session, you and your mentor will lay out your goals and aspirations, what you’d like to accomplish, and/or what you’d like to improve upon. It’s our job to get you to that place, and give you the tools you need to move even further than that.

The sound of blues is predominantly the relationship between the major and minor 3rd, and the tritone. Dorian is perfect for blues music because it blends so well with the pentatonic scale, offering combinations of both. Plus, the distance between the minor 3rd and major 6th present in Dorian is also a tritone!

I love this quote from one of my favorite songwriters. Have you ever heard a song that captures exactly what you’re feeling? A song that makes you say, “YES! That’s exactly it, I just wasn’t able to express it myself!” Well, my friends, that’s one of the many joys of songwriting. So yes, you have a responsibility to help others with your words and melodies. Some days you might feel like you’re not helping anyone, but remember: The world needs the magic of music. And if musicians didn’t exist, we would never have that feeling of catharsis. And I don’t want to live in that world.

Now that 2019 is well upon us, we’ve compiled the payment schedule for the various PROs here for your review, as well as how much each distributes on an annual basis.

Heck, many actual classic games even tried to include lo-fi, “chippified” covers of “real” songs in their gameplay soundtracks with varying degrees of success. Exhibit A:

If you waited around for inspiration to strike you, you’d have to watch each pitch opportunity, co-write, and artist session pass you by in the dark until that light bulb in your head finally turns on. That’s not a very effective way to make a living off of your craft, is it?

Lulu’s creation mirrors the themes of its plot. Berg started writing it after being emboldened by the success of his first opera, Wozzeck, in the 1920s. He made significant progress but abandoned the project following the death of Manon Gropius, a muse of Berg’s and essentially he and his wife’s adoptive daughter. By the time the violin concerto he dedicated to Gropius debuted, Berg himself had already died at age 50. Blood poisoning took his life on Christmas Eve in 1935, and Lulu was left only one-third orchestrated.

These different ways to get your song out there can be that little extra push you need to help generate more revenue. Think of your song like a business by doing research on other revenue avenues to help you get compensated for your work, but always remember to remain the owner of your copyright.

Plus, holy crap, they gave Bieber his own entire verse this time! He grew up so fast. Seriously, though, it’s really cool how all of the verses in this song are completely distinct from one another, yet still follow an 8+4 construction.
